What You Don't Know About Fibroids Might Surprise You

Global News Toronto recently ran a segment on Fibroids. Many people confuse fibroids with other disorders, suffering needlessly as a result

A recent Global News Article describes a fibroid as a hard ball of muscle. Not to be confused with a cyst or polyp, a fibroid, also known as a leiomyomas or myomas, is a type of growth found in or on a woman’s uterus. More precisely, a fibroid is a benign smooth muscle tumor that very rarely becomes cancer. They can occur in any organ, but the most common forms occur in the uterus, small bowel, and the esophagus.

Fibroids are very common; by some estimates up to by age 50 up to 80 percent of women have fibroids.

Fibroids may pose no danger or concern; however, some women experience negative symptoms with fibroids. These symptoms may affect your period, and by extension may therefore affect your fertility.

If you believe fibroids may be a concern for you, check with your family doctor. In certain instances, surgery may be required. We suggest also speaking with one of our traditional Chinese medicine practitioners who may address some causes of fibroids, and who may also offer relief from symptoms.
