Eating Tomatoes May Increase Your Odds of Becoming a Dad

In what seems like advise your mother would give you, a recent study suggests eating tomatoes may increase your chances of becoming a father!

Men may treat some sperm disorders by eating tomatoes (or at least, lycopene derived from tomatoes). According to researchers, the compound lycopene in the tomato can help raise your chances of having a baby by boosting not only sperm count and quality, but also sperm size and swimming speed. If true, this may be the easiest and best fertility breakthrough in years.

Researchers in Sheffield, UK recruited 60 healthy volunteers between the ages 19 and 30 for a 12-week long trial. Thirty ingested 14mg of LactoLycopene, a pill containing lycopene, while the other 30 ingested a placebo.

Sperm samples were analyzed from the at start and end of the trial. Those who ingested the pill had a measurable increase in sperm motility and morphology.

Researchers surmised that the anti-oxidant properties of lycopene serves as a shield, preventing the sperm cells from being damaged.

While further research must determine if this is a viable treatment for certain types of male infertility, results are very encouraging.
