Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes prevent eggs from getting to the uterus and sperm from getting to the egg. Leading causes include pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia, and previous sterilization surgery.

The Stress Connection

Stress can cause functional blockage in which the tubes are blocked only some of the time. Stress tends to constrict pelvic musculature and decrease blood flow. This can be a factor in a person’s inability to conceive.

Conventional versus TCM Treatment of Blockages

The most common Western medical intervention for blocked or damaged fallopian tubes is laparoscopic or other surgeries to open the tubes if possible (for small areas of blockage).

Acupuncture and/or herbal treatments can help with incomplete blockages and certain blockages with specific causes. Acupuncture and herbal treatments help to reduce swelling, promote healing and reduce scarring.  Acupuncture is also useful in reducing stress and increasing blood flow.
